    Gennakers: Measurement

    You can easily determine which gennaker is right for you by following these few simple steps:

    1) Luff Length Measurement
    Attach a tape measure to the halyard and hoist it as far as it will go. Measure straight down to the gennaker tack fitting. The tack of the sail is flown off the deck just above the pulpit rail, but it can be sailed at a higher or lower location based on personal preference. When measuring, remember that the luff of the sail is rarely a straight line. A higher tack height can reduce chafe, increase visibility. A lower tack height will increase sail area and performance. :
